On-shore Power Supply / Cold Ironing & On-board Power Supply
- Onshore power supply, often referred to as “shore power,” is a system that provides electrical power to ships while they are docked at a port. This system allows ships to turn off their onboard generators, reducing air pollution and noise in the vicinity of the port. It typically involves connecting the ship to the local electrical grid or a dedicated power source on the shore using special connectors and cables. This way, the ship can operate its onboard systems and services, such as lighting, refrigeration, and HVAC, without relying on its internal generators.
